- How to mount a bathroom mirror?
Installing a bathroom mirror is a relatively simple task if you have DIY experience. If you are in any way unsure, we always advise that you seek professional assistance in order to avoid any damages.
How to install your mirror will depend on how it will be attached (for example, is it a hanging mirror or a wall-mounted mirror?) Before you begin, it is also important that you have chosen the ideal spot for your new mirror; take accurate measurements to ensure your mirror will be the perfect fit. Once you’ve chosen the perfect spot, mark the centre spot with a small mark or an ‘X’ and mark the centre of the mirror too –this will ensure complete accuracy when installing the mirror in the right spot.
Mirrors can be heavy, and although all our mirrors feature premium materials to ensure excellent robustness, mirrors will always remain fragile. It is thus advisable to get an extra pair of hands for mounting a mirror, or acquire the help of a professional if you’re unsure. Have your extra pair of hands hold the mirror up on the wall and position it so that the mid-point marks for both the mirror and the wall are aligned. Mark the borders of the mirror onto the wall with a light pencil.
Next, find the studs at the back of your drywall where the mirror will be hung using a stud finder. Mark its location with a pencil then draw a line midway between the studs. Use a level at this point to ensure that the mirror will be level on the wall. Then take two J-clips and attach their bottom to the wall following the marks with flathead wood screws. The tops of the anchored pipes should be securely fastened to the wall. The two J-clips should be slipped lightly into the anchors. Lastly, position the bathroom mirror into the bottom of the J-clips and press the clips down so that the ends go over the rim of the mirror and secure it against the wall.
If you’re hanging a framed mirror, begin by fastening eye screws behind the mirror frame. Fasten one eye screw at the left side and at two inches higher than the vertical centre of your mirror. Attach the other screw to the right side as well. Next, choose the appropriate wire to use for hanging the framed mirror; it should be wrapped through one eye screw and then twisted securely with pliers. Ensure you leave enough wire extension to repeat this for the other side.
At this point, it is important to determine if a stud is present. Use a stud finder, and if a stud is present, you will need a couple of screws to attach the mirror to your wall. If there isn’t a stud present, you can either choose a location where a stud is present or secure the mirror to the wall by using a hallow wall anchor. Then hold down the mirror and bring up the wire into the centre. Determine the measurement from the bottom of the frame to the top of the mid-point of the wire –this will provide the location of where to attach the new nail. Lastly, carefully lift the mirror (advisably with an extra pair of hands) and hang it on the installed nail. Ensure your mirror is positioned evenly on the wall, and then that’s your new mirror installed!
