Small Bathroom Ideas

Having a small bathroom doesn’t mean that you can’t have the style you want in your bathroom. It just means that you may need to make a few more considerations regarding what fixtures you will be installing. If you have a small en-suite, a cloakroom or a compact bathroom you  can rest assured that you can still find a wide variety of products to suit your individual style preferences regardless of your bathroom size.

COLOUR SCHEME

Colour scheme is very important when it comes to bathroom design. Choosing the correct colours in a smaller bathroom requires a bit of thought.

Painting everything a unifying color will visually expand a bathroom. Neutral colours tend to work well in smaller bathrooms and can always be enhanced with a small splash of colour from bathroom fixture or a tile design. one down any patterns or bright colours and keep them as a focal point of the room. A small bathroom can be transformed into an elegant space that can feel open and airy. For a simple look, opt for large stone effect wall and floor tiles.

STORAGE

Beauty products, shaving cream, toothbrushes, soap. All of these things are a must in our daily lives but they can also make a small bathroom look extremely cluttered and highlight a lack of space. We recommend investing in some handy bathroom storage cabinets to tuck away all of your essentials. Display only what you need to on your sink, cabinet and other surfaces so you can add other decorative touches like faux plants.

For smaller bathrooms, it is also a good idea to look into adding combination units. Combination units do exactly what they say on the tin. The combine various bathroom fixtures into a smaller, space-saving unit. The Slimline Black Ash Back to Wall WC Unit combines storage, a basin, and a toilet whilst offering a sleek appearance.

LIGHTING

When natural light reflects off surfaces, it creates the illusion of a larger space. When you design a look for a smaller bathroom you can maximise this by adding a mirror adjacent to the sunlight.

But, what if you don’t have a window?

In smaller bathrooms it is very common see no windows. Some people create a skylight but this can be costly and is generally something that is created during a complete renovation. However, there are inexpensive ways to create light. If your bathroom has no windows, you can still install lights in strategic ways. Look for “cool white,” “bright white” or “daylight” bulbs that minimize shadows for the greatest output around your bathroom. Placement of your lights will depend on the shape and layout of your bathroom.

SHOWER ENCLOSURES

Shower enclosures can be found in many different shapes and sizes that can work very well in small bathrooms. Choosing a shower enclosure isn’t a straight forward process so we recommend taking some time to see what kind of shower enclosure is applicable to your bathroom needs.

Corner Shower enclousures

Corner enclosures are ideal for saving space and can fit into the most unusual shaped bathrooms. There’s a variety of corner enclosures available, in a number of different shapes and sizes including quadrant and square. To save the most space, square would be your best bet.

Bathshack supply collections of corner shower enclosures for small bathrooms. If you’re unsure what to choose, the Vantage corner entry shower enclosure is the perfect example of everything stated above.  The corner design will fit into any bathroom and the 6mm glass helps keep the rest of your bathroom dry. Additionally, it has a polished silver frame that will reflect light beautifully as well as providing a contemporary look.

Quadrant Shower Enclosures

Quadrant shower enclosures offer the look of luxury without demanding space. With clean curves and a large amount of internal space, quadrant enclosures can feel slightly roomier than rectangular or square alternatives. The XL 8mm 'Easy Fit' Quadrant Shower Enclosure one of our favourites here at Bathshack. With easy to use sliding doors and 8mm safety glass this cabin is both durable and ideal for small spaces.

SHOWER BATHS

When we think of smaller bathrooms it often leads us to start making sacrifices due to a lack of space. Many people love bathing and showering which makes the choice between the two even harder. However, compromises do not have to be made. A shower bath will offer the best of both worlds and take up a lot less space.

CORNER APPLIANCES

Corner appliances are excellent for maximising floor space. For example, the placement of corner baths opens up canter of a bathroom which means you will be able to move freely throughout the rest of the space. The Avocado 1500 Space Saving Corner Bath may save you floor space but this doesn’t mean that the bathing area is restricted. This corner bath is the perfect place to unwind after a hard day. Plus, its modern teardrop design looks stunning when featured in contemporary bathroom designs. The Moods Naples Corner Basin is another space saving fixture that would look great on its own or paired with the Avocado bath.

TOILETS

Back to Wall Toilets

A back to wall toilet will help you to achieve a minimalist look and creates a more spacious appearance. As the cistern of a back to wall toilet is hidden the toilet commands less space giving you more room to move around. The Moods Amyris Back to Wall WC Pan is a good example of a flush to wall finish that doesn’t demand space and will complement existing bathroom fixtures.

Wall Hung Toilets

Wall hung back to wall toilets are another toilet option that will allow you to save space. The concealed cistern means that the toilet can be placed near other bathroom furniture without making everything seem cramped together. As the toilet pan does not touch the floor, not only does it open up floor space but also makes it easier to clean.
